SINIGANG
"SINIGANG"
by Marie Aubrey J. Villanueva
The short story Sinigang is written in 2001 by Marie Aubrey Villaceran narrates how Liza, the main character, deals with the issue of her father who had an extramarital affair with Sylvia, and consequently had a son, Lem. The story takes place in Liza’s home whereshe, together with her Tita Loleng, prepares Sinigang for the family dinner, as it is her father’s favorite dish. During the course preparing and cooking, Tita Loleng ask Liza about her encounter with Sylvia in the wake of Lem who died because of cancer. It is through Tita Lolengs’s question with the procedures of preparing Sinigang that sparked flashbacks in the story revealing not only vivid memories of how Liza was made known about her father’s other family, how uneasy she felt when she finally met Sylvia, how rancorous and pretentiously impassive she is towards her father, but also, these flashbacks disclose how unconditional the love of Liza’s mother is, and no matter no Liza denies, her love for her father, in spite of all his flaws, is never really lost.
MORAL VALUES
The lessons I learned in the amazing short story "Sinigang". It will really teach every reader about the importance of having a strong foundation between family members, respecting, being strong, apologizing and forgiving especially to the Filipino families who are experiencing the same issue with the story.
FORGIVENESS
We all made mistakes because we are all humans, but it doesn’t mean that even if we are humans it Is okay to make a mistakes. Think first before act. Forgiving is like setting yourself free from negatives and bad thoughts.
"To forgive is the highest, beautiful form of Love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness”
Robert Muller
IMPACT to me as a 21st Century Learner
As a 21st century learner, I know what is Family affairs but my family didn’t experience it because I know my parents love each other. Family affairs is one of the most controversial problems that some tv shows features and as a millennials I know that it is wrong and not good for family and to God because you make a promises and responsibilities to yoir family you should and must never forget it. It hurts knowing that many people have this kind of problem in their house, full of pain, regrets and questions on how and why can someone do that when from the start they are happy and contented and I realized nothing is permanent people will always look for someone for pleasure and attention. Without knowing how it hurts to know. But then, try to make it work AGAIN for the second time but not third.
